Helping Children and Youth Achieve Their Potential.

United Way in Action…

Here are just a few examples of United Way’s impact on our community:
  • Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, over 1,200 children ages birth to five years old receive a free book each month, preparing them for kindergarten through the enhancement of reading skills and vocabulary development.
  • 905 Girl Scouts participated in programs that build courage, character, and confidence including activities such as community service projects, healthy living activities, career activities, and arts and crafts.
  • 902 Boy Scouts were taught leadership, teamwork, community service, healthy lifestyles, ethical decision-making, drug abuse prevention, and crime prevention.
  • 675 children participated in the activities of the Boys & Girls Clubs last year. Of those participating in the Education & Career Development Program, 85% increased their grade level in at least three subjects. Seven members secured summer employment.
  • Over 1,000 youth are enrolled in youth development programs such as the YMCA’s Youth in Government program, the pre-school program, after school childcare, holiday child care, and “School’s Out Fun Day.”
  • Valuable information from Concern for Children is available to every new mom who gives birth in Calhoun County which gives them resources to increase their effectiveness as a parent.
  • Of the 1,500 teen parents in our community, those that have participated in Concern for Children’s Adolescent Parent Program achieved an 85% increase in school attendance.
