What is Day of Action?

Day of Action is United Way’s signature volunteer
event. The purpose of this day is to bring
neighbors and resources together to improve
our local community. Volunteer teams from
companies throughout the county are partnered
with local non-profit agencies through this one
day hands-on event to assist them with various
improvement projects. This provides participants
with a glimpse into the needs of our community,
encourages deeper community involvement,
and fosters a sense of unity between volunteers.
Last year, over 300 volunteers spent a Friday in
June helping 24 local non-profit agencies with
projects that would ordinarily go undone. Day of
Action volunteers bridge the gap much needed
improvements need to be accomplished, but
the man-power and funds just aren’t there. Over
1,100 volunteer hours were logged on this one
day alone, allowing the agencies to continue
providing important and necessary services to
the residents of Calhoun County.

How you can help as a member of YLS !!!
We need day of action ambassadors! We would
like to have a team of “Day of Action Ambassadors” who
will travel to jobsites throughout the county to ensure
our volunteer groups have things like plenty of water,
snacks, etc. You will, of course, receive community
service hours for your time. Please contact Sherlyn,
smcwhorter@firsteducatorscu.com, to volunteer.
want to participate in day of action but you
don’t have a team? We will be putting together a YLS
Volunteer Team to work on a project for Day of Action.
Please contact Sherlyn to be on the YLS Day of Action
Team at smcwhorter@firsteducatorscu.com
