Day of Action: 300 Strong to Live United Against Hunger

A “yellow shirt army” of 300+ volunteers joined together on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, with a common goal – to make a positive impact on Calhoun County! United Way’s Day of Action, presented by Benton Nissan, marked its 24th year in Calhoun County, with this being the third consecutive year to have a focus on providing meals to stock the shelves of food pantries throughout the county. Volunteers packaged 50,000 meals to ensure that our residents who are food insecure, will have food available to them when visiting one of our local food pantries.

In addition, volunteers were able to stuff 350 backpacks full of school supplies for local children in need. This effort was spearheaded through a “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive with Smiles by Design – Braces by Benton.

If you did not get a chance to volunteer at this year’s event, be sure to follow United Way of East Central Alabama on Facebook to stay informed on upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
