Read Across America 2021

Read Across America 2021

Unfortunately, this year United Way will not be able to send volunteer readers into our pre-k and kindergarten classrooms because of COVID protocols.

For many years United Way’s Success By 6 initiative with the help of the Alabama Power Service Organization has been able to provide volunteers readers for our pre-k and kindergarten classrooms in Calhoun County. This year is no different, except the volunteers are virtual. We are honored to be able to provide each student with their own copy of “Giraffes Can’t Dance.”

Success by 6 has a focus on making sure each child is ready for kindergarten as they begin. Part of that focus is child literacy. United Way is blessed to be able to partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and be the champion in Calhoun County, and provide age appropriate books to children in Calhoun County from birth to 5.

Read Across America week allows are volunteers to remind students just how important reading is and how much fun reading can be for them now and as they grow older!

On Tuesday, March 2nd, we will share the Read Across America Video with pre-k and kindergarten classrooms across Calhoun County and on social media for all to take part in.

We look forward to having you join us! If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Smith, jsmith@uweca.org
